From Tap Beer to Sangria: A Local Guide to Drinks at La Babiti in Torrevieja
A concise guide to the drink choices at La Babiti, beer on tap, house sangria, wines and cocktails, with pairing suggestions for Swedish dishes like plankstek and Köttbullar and practical tips for visiting.

Why this guide matters
La Babiti on Pl. de Capdepont in Torrevieja has become a go-to spot for visitors seeking svensk husmanskost and Swedish food away from the beachfront crowd. This guide explains the restaurant's drink options, from ice-cold draft beer to house-made sangria, a selected wine list and crafted cocktails, and helps you choose what to order with classic dishes such as plankstek, Köttbullar, skagen, pasta and grilled meats.
Beer on tap: an easy starting point
Many guests mention the appeal of an ice-cold beer on tap, which makes beer a reliable and versatile choice at La Babiti. Draft beer pairs particularly well with hearty grilled dishes and the plankstek, cutting through the richness of sauces and charred flavours. If you prefer something lighter with salads or seafood starters, ask staff for a lighter lager or pilsner option, they can point you to a suitable pour.
House sangria and cocktails
La Babiti’s sangria is regularly praised by diners and is a standout if you want a fruity, refreshing accompaniment to your meal. The bartenders also prepare cocktails that complement the restaurant’s cosy interior and late-night bar atmosphere. Sangria works especially well with salmon or lighter fish preparations, while cocktails can be selected to match spice levels and seasoning, for example, a citrus-forward cocktail with seafood or a darker, spirit-forward drink with red meat.
The wine selection: simple, thoughtful choices
The restaurant advertises a curated wine list and reviews frequently note the quality of the wine offerings. Expect a mix of approachable red and white wines that suit both Swedish cuisine and grill dishes. A medium-bodied red pairs nicely with plankstek and beef dishes; a crisp white is a good match for fish, skagen and creamy sauces. If you prefer to follow a staff recommendation, the team can suggest a wine by weight and flavor profile rather than specific labels.
Pairing suggestions for Swedish favourites
- Plankstek: Choose a fuller red or a robust beer to stand up to the rich meat and typical accompaniments. - Köttbullar (meatballs): A balanced red or a brown ale complements the savory, spiced profile. - Skagen and salmon dishes: Opt for a crisp white, rosé or the house sangria for a fruitier contrast. - Pasta and lighter salads: Lighter wines or a pale lager work best to keep the meal feeling fresh. These pairings reflect the restaurant’s menu focus on Swedish cuisine and the flavours reviewers consistently note.
Atmosphere, service and practical hours
La Babiti is open every day from 17:00 to 01:00, with the bar staying open late, making it suitable for dinner and after-dinner drinks. Reviewers often highlight friendly service and a pleasant interior atmosphere, with some seating available outside. If you value a quieter indoor setting, several guests have recommended sitting inside to enjoy the ambiance while sipping wine or a cocktail.
Tips for ordering and enjoying your visit
Ask your server for pairing suggestions, the staff are accustomed to matching drinks to Swedish dishes on the menu. If you want to sample multiple options, consider sharing a pitcher of sangria or ordering different drinks for the table. Note that many reviewers praised the sangria and cocktails specifically, so it can be a good starting point when trying La Babiti’s drink offerings. Finally, if you’re visiting during peak times, a reservation will help ensure you get the seating you prefer.
“Food was excellent. So tasty we had the meatballs and potato on wood board and the salmon in white wine sauce. Delicious! Sangria was excellent made by barman. Owners are so friendly and nice. A new business. Different to the usual food you will find along the beachfront. Good quality food with good flavours. Worth visiting. Good wine menu and cocktails also. Lovely setting and ambiance inside , with some outside seating. But worth sitting inside.”
